Flexible Sigmoidoscopy Prep

Follow a clear liquid diet the day before and the day of the exam. Examples of what you can drink include:

  • Clear broth
  • Fruit juices (no pulp, no red or purple in color)
  • Coffee or hot tea (no dairy products)
  • Plain gelatin (no red or purple colors)
  • Carbonated Beverages, pop, etc.

DO NOT EAT SOLID FOOD THE DAY BEFORE THE TEST!

  • Purchase three (3) Fleet brand enemas (green box).
  • You are to use the first enema the evening before your exam.
  • Take the second enema in the early morning on the day of the exam.
  • Take the third enema one hour prior to your exam.

HOLD THE ENEMAS FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN

  • If you are a diabetic, you may have a liquid breakfast at your normal mealtime, but following the enema preparation.
  • You may take your usual medications the morning of the examination.
  • Please arrive thirty (30) minutes prior to your appointment.

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) Prep

You should not eat or drink anything, including water, for eight hours prior to your procedure. You should not take any aspirin or ibuprofen products for five days before the procedure. On the morning of your test, take only medication for your heart or blood pressure with a sip of water at least two hours before your procedure.

Our staff will give you specific instructions about adjustments that need to be made to your medications prior to your procedure. If you are a diabetic and on insulin, we request that you ask your Primary Care Physician about your insulin instructions prior to your procedure. If you are taking blood thinners (Coumadin, Plavix, Warfarin, etc.) we will discuss these medications with your doctor and inform you of any special instructions that will need to be followed.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call our office at least 24 hours in advance.
